Our 5-step website MOT for better growth in 2010

It’s a new year and 2010 is looking good for the digital industry. Getting more from your online presence is gaining ever greater importance. It is easy given the speed of progress of the internet to forget to take a retrospective review of what has and what hasn’t worked for you during the past twelve months. Therefore why not spend a few minutes going through our 5-step website MOT – it could make all the difference.

1.  Don’t lose sight of your website objectives
During both challenging and successful times it is easy to lose focus on your main goals - when was the last time you went back to review your original marketing plan? Get back on track and diarise a monthly reminder to track your performance against your planned objectives.

2.  Engage with your agency
Client/agency relationships that are open and engaging consistently produce the best results for the client. Have you taken your agency through your plans for the forthcoming year? Has your agency taken you through its views on the latest trends and best practises in the industry? If not it’s time to talk.

3.  Challenge your views as to what your customers think about your business and their requirements
The online world is constantly evolving with the development of new technologies and the application of customer insight discoveries to both site structure and design. Knowing what your customer expects from your brand is vital. Conducting research to find this out can either justify further website and campaign development or prove what you are doing is right. Can you afford not to?

4.  De-clutter
The last twelve months has seen more and more brands integrating clever functionality onto their sites. Has this extra functionality benefited your site or has it simply added clutter? Approach your online marketing presence from a holistic point of view and focus on what delivers.

5.  Refresh your design
Does your site look fresh and on-brand in 2010 or have some of your competitors’ sites started to look better than yours? Website design has taken a major step forward and a site that was state of the art two years ago can already look dated. This doesn’t necessarily mean a re-design for your website, if the budget does not exist you could invest in a series of quick wins such as reviewing product imagery on your site.  Customers will judge a brand by its website, so relatively small changes can lead to bigger brand success for you - can you afford to be left behind in the design stakes?

Design UK is committed to the growth and success of our clients’ sites.  With over 12 years experience we work together with top UK brands including Hobbs, Jaeger, New Look, BBC, Speedo and Virgin Media Business to design and build sites that really deliver for them.
